LAKESIDE FARMS CELEBRATES VETERANS THROUGH MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
“It’s important to us to celebrate those [military] families and acknowledge the family’s hardship,” said Jim Rosa, Lakeside Farms Elementary Principal. Lakeside Farms has a high population of military families. Rosa said “we appreciate what they do for our community.”
On Friday, November 8th, Lakeside Farms held their annual Military Appreciation Day. They have celebrated veterans and members of the military for several years through this event but Rosa had the idea to make it bigger and better last year by pushing the breakfast to an earlier time and adding an assembly. This schedule has grown participation of the event — this year and last year, they had a packed house with seating for 200; about 250 including students
In years past Lakeside Farms held the breakfast at the start of school at 9 AM in a decorated multipurpose room. With their assembly fashion, performances by the students honoring the military were added, growing the event
The school provided breakfast burritos and pastries at 8 AM with student performances beginning at 9 AM. The school’s Chorus Club, roughly 15 students, sang the National Anthem
Students performed patriotic-related songs and poems for event attendees. Rosa said families seemed very appreciative of them taking the time to celebrate their duties and their families.
“Their families really have to endure,” Rosa said. “We appreciate what they do, and it’s hard for them and their families.
Overall, it was a successful celebration and Lakeside honors their veterans and those involved in the military
