BYRON BAY, NEW SOUTH WALES – Byron Bay startup Galaxy Reading is on a mission to support children affected by COVID-19-related schooling disruptions with the launch of a suite of early-reading programs.

With major organizations like UNICEF warning that COVID-19 could “seriously threaten” the educational foundation of tens of millions of kids, Susan Adam — literacy specialist and Lead Educator at Galaxy Reading — felt compelled to help. Aware of the severe lack of affordable reading programs available for home use, she teamed with Galaxy Reading to design high-quality early reading programs that give parents back control.

In December 2021, Galaxy Reading released its core early reading program, which takes children aged three and up from pre-reading skills to reading and writing independently. In 2022, the company will launch programs to address the needs of older students and children with learning difficulties.

“I constantly hear from parents worried their children are falling behind because of lockdowns and online learning,” Ms. Adam said. “What many people don’t realize is that when it comes to learning to read, it’s not always easy to bounce back from these kinds of disruptions. If they miss out on crucial building blocks now, it can have an irreversible knock-on effect.”

Ms. Adam harnessed her decades of experience teaching children to read with phonics to address this problem. Whether the child is a preschooler or a student needing extra support, Galaxy Reading programs “fill in the gaps” and give kids the full suite of literacy skills they need to excel.

With the needs of busy families at the core of the project, Galaxy Reading programs are screen-free, take less than 15 minutes a day, and are built strictly on proven approaches.

“With Galaxy Reading, our goal isn’t to reinvent the wheel,” Ms. Adam said. “We only use educational strategies that are backed by a solid body of research. Where we’ve innovated is by translating this research into lessons that can be delivered by parents in quick, effective sessions.”

“I hear often from parents that kids burn out when learning with apps or online classes,” Ms. Adam said. “Children thrive off human interaction and feedback, especially from their parents. By giving families a screen-free reading program to follow, parents can sleep well knowing their child’s education is in the best hands.”

Galaxy Reading has also recently introduced a free sample pack offer. The sample includes a coupon that can be redeemed for a discount on the full program.
